TALK, we must TALK. People who do not talk, do not understand each other. Those who talk, understand each other. Talk kills prejudice.
This is the motto of journalist Senad Hadzifejzovic, which has been confirmed many times in the course of his career, from his work in the newspaper, via radio to television. He spoke with Momo Kapor, writer, during the 1980s who was an "obnoxious, detestable enemy of Sarajevo, unwanted in Bosnia." He also spoke with Milovan Djilas, "traitor and dissident", in late eighties, in the first TV appearance of the "prince of the Communist Party" following his release from prison and into house arrest.
He "interrogated" Alija Izetbegovic, "the Muslim fundamentalist" in the late eighties, immediately after his release from incarceration, who, in his first "testimony" for television admitted everything.
Just before the war, he posed questions to "political twins" Tudjman and Milosevic, asking them what they had agreed in Karadjordjevo and said himself that such an agreement could lead only to war. At the beginning of the war, he was the only journalist to conduct a comprehensive live interview with Radovan Karadzic, who was already known as the "enemy of Bosnia" and tried to convince him to cease the attacks on Sarajevo, which Karadzic accepted. Immediately afterwards, Izetbegovic also agreed in live broadcast
He appealed to generals, commanders of the Yugoslav army, "heartless butchers" Kukanjac i Akenstijevic to stop killing civilians during a live broadcast of TV Sarajevo. They got the message. Then.
He once again convinced the "enemy" Karadzic in live program that there can be no winners in this war, that there can only be numerous casualties and many dead children. Radovan agreed.
On May 2 1992, in a public TV discourse eight hours long, he persuaded the Yugoslav national army's general Djurdjevic, "the abductor" that he must immediately release the legally appointed BiH President, Alija Izetbegovic. He appealed to his officer's honor and democratic commitment. The President was released after that discussion.
During the entire war, he was pointing out to the Bosnian, “Muslim elite and generals“, Izetbegovic, Silajdzic, Ganic, Hajrulahovic, Alagic, Dudakovic that their State, the people, "politics and the army must not fall in the trap of vengeance and hatred."
After the war, he was the first journalist from the "victim country of crime and injustice" to speak with the "despised representatives of the aggressor"– Vuk Draskovic,Tomislav Nikolic, Ivica Dacic, Boris Tadic,Vuk Jeremic.
After the war, he was the first one to compose the tri-member BiH Presidency - "the three-headed monster" - Izetbegovic, Jelavic, Radisic - in a TV studio and show the public that the three presidents can talk to each other.
He was the first to present to the general public the heads of the four-member Inter-religious Council - A Muslim, a Jew, an Orthodox Christian and a Catholic - Ceric, Finci, Nikolaj and Puljic, where he underlined the fact that the four religious leaders believe in One God.
In a series of live interviews, he presented the President of Croatia, Stjepan Mesic as a determined leader and a great friend of Bosnia. This is how the wounds of war are healed.
In the course of three interviews with Montenegrin Prime Minister-President Milo Djukanovic, "the aggressor", he concluded that the "little Montenegro was a great enemy, and now a friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina".
He was the first journalist to bring together via satellite link the "three presidents-three enemies" and "made Mesic, Tadic and Silajdzic talk". That was first and only time that they held "normal" talks.
He was the first one to go to Banja Luka and hold an interview with Dodik, "the separatist and irredentist." He told him, "Talk, quit the monologue of stupidity." He repeated this one more time and Dodik accepted it.
He invited to Sarajevo and talked with the Serb Foreign Minister, Vuk Jeremic "the vicious bull."
Yes, we really need to talk, it is the only way, Serbian President Tadic admitted in an unusually open discussion without any prepared documents.
Indeed, talk is the only solution, this has been confirmed live by Richard Holbrooke, Madeleine Albright, Christiane Amanpour, Martin Bell, Francis Boyle, Riz Khan, Milan Kucan, Hasim Taci, Fatmir Seydiou, Kiro Gligorov and other main stakeholders of the "drama of South East Europe and Western Balkans."
Whenever we failed to talk – we were at war. Now that we talk – peace it's called. It's good, but unusual, weird for journalism, and bad for politics when a journalist has to explain to politicians the foundations, the essence of their task - talk, so you could understand each other.
